E-Mail Messages Cannot Be Guaranteed Secure

Phishing refers to fraudulent communications designed to deceive consumers into divulging personal, financial, or account information, including account user name and password, credit card information, and social security number. Email is most commonly used for phishing due to its low cost, greater anonymity for the sender, the ability to reach a large target group instantly, and the potential to solicit an immediate response. However, fraudsters have also used online pop-up windows, direct mail and phone calls.

Phishing emails often appear to come from legitimate financial institutions, insurance companies or retailers. Techniques such as a false “from” address, the use of seemingly authentic logos from financial institutions, or Web links and graphics may be used to mislead consumers into believing that they are dealing with a legitimate request for personal information. These fraudulent emails often create a false sense of urgency intended to provoke the recipient to take immediate action; for example, phishing emails frequently instruct recipients to “validate” or “update” account information or face cancellation.

Contact River Glen Immediately Upon Receipt of Suspect E-mails

River Glen never sends emails requesting you to provide personal information, such as password, social security number, account numbers, mother’s maiden name, etc. in the body of an email.

If you receive an email that you believe could be fraudulent, do not respond to the email and immediately forward a copy to Dawne Garvey, Chief Compliance Officer, at dgarvey@riverglenwealth.com. Please do not alter the email in any way when you forward it to us. If we find the email to be fraudulent, we will take appropriate action.

How You Can Safeguard Your Information

Some steps you can take to maintain the security of your information include:

• Utilize the latest, generally proven proven internet browser.
• Keep your User ID and PIN or password confidential. Utilize a PIN or password unique to you and, if possible, change it frequently.
• Make sure others are not watching you enter your User ID, PIN or password on your keyboard
• Do not leave your computer unattended while logged onto our site
• After you’ve finished accessing your information, log out of your account.

How To Obtain Information We Have About You

You may request to see, or obtain by mail, the information about you in our records. If you believe that our information is incomplete or inaccurate, you may request that we correct, add to, or delete from the disputed information.
